Nepali Congress president and former prime minister, Sher Bahadur Deuba has said the overall development of the country would not be possible in the absence of sustainable peace. So, his party's first priority was peace.
He stated this in a message of best wishes on the occasion of the 2564th Buddha Jayanti or the birth anniversary of Gautam Buddha, the apostle of peace, today. In the message, leader Deuba has wished that peace be maintained in the country with all people following the teachings of the Buddha and that all the countrymen be free from the prevalent injustice, abuse and all sorts of oppressions.
Stating that there were many opportunities before us for building a peaceful and prosperous Nepal, the Nepali Congress president called for putting to an end, once and for all, the anti- human rights activities like violence, killings, kidnappings.
He also reiterated that defeating the global pandemic of COVID-19 was the need of the hour by fully abiding by the lockdown and maintaining social distance, adding this would be possible only by working together and unity along with high willpower.
